Separately, the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation holds a Scheme of Management over much of the original garden-city estate, which can require its own consent for tree removal and significant works, entirely independently of the council. Owners routinely discover the second layer only after arranging the work. We check both before quoting and handle the applications for a small fee, deducted from your bill if the work goes ahead.

Verge Trees & Shared Responsibility

A defining garden-city feature is the wide grass verge with street trees, and one of the most common questions we get in Letchworth is simply whose tree it is. Verge and highway trees are generally the council's responsibility, not yours, and we won't touch them without confirmed authority — but overhanging limbs from a neighbour's or a boundary tree over your garden are a different matter, with defined rights and limits. We'll tell you plainly at the site visit which category your tree falls into and who needs to consent before we quote for anything.
